Pittman Dental Laboratory Account Managers are excited to share valuable insights and techniques with our Doctors. In this blog, you'll discover two proven methods we've developed over the years to help ensure greater success when placing a crown beneath a partial denture.
A: Copy Pre-Op Contours Simple and Accurate Technique
- Set the partial denture aside and do not use it at all with this technique.
- If the pre-op condition accurately reflects the proper fit to the existing partial denture, simply take a scan or pre-op impression without using the partial.
- After tooth preparation, send the pre-op scan or pre-op impression along with the master scan or impression of preparations.
- We will use these models to replicate the exact contours of the pre-op condition.
- For the best results always use a full zirconia or full monolithic restoration—no layering.
Note: For improved fit to the partial, you can add to the pre-op tooth that does not fit to the partial correctly with composite to achieve the desired fit. Then take the scan or conventional impression for the pre-op.
B: Scan Existing Partial Technique
- Scan master impression without partial in place.
- Scan the partial out of the mouth by simply holding the partial and scanning all surfaces.
- We will print both the working prep model, the patients partial and fabricate restoration.
- No need to send partial denture to laboratory.
